Tags
Label transactions across accounts, then find them again.
A tag is a free-form label on a transaction. Where an account says what something was, a tag says what it belonged to — a holiday, a renovation, a client, everything you mean to claim at tax time. One transaction can carry several, and a tag can span any number of accounts.
Adding tags
- Open the transaction out in the register — select it and press ⌘E, or click its disclosure arrow.
- Type into the Tags line, separating tags with commas.
- Press ⌘⏎, or click away, to commit the row.
Rules can apply them for you: a rule action Set tags puts the same labels on every transaction it matches, as it is imported. See Categorising and rules.
Finding them again
tag:holiday | Everything tagged holiday |
|---|---|
-tag:holiday | Everything not tagged holiday |
tag:holiday amount:>500 | Combine with any other search term |
Type these into Find Transactions (⌘F). A tag search reaches across every account at once, which is the point of tagging rather than filing.
