Getting started

Create a book, or bring one over from GnuCash.

A book is your whole set of accounts and transactions, kept in one file you own. FinvestLens never uploads it anywhere.

Start a book

  1. Choose File ▸ New Book… (⌥⌘N) and pick where to keep the file.
  2. Choose a starter chart of accounts, or start empty and add your own.
  3. Add your bank and credit-card accounts, and enter their opening balances.

Coming from GnuCash

Choose File ▸ Import GnuCash… and pick your .gnucash file. Accounts, transactions, prices, scheduled transactions and business records all come across, and you can export back to GnuCash at any time.

How dates are written

You choose the order — day/month/year, month.day.year or year-month-day — in Settings ▸ General ▸ Dates. You never choose how much of a date is spelled out: FinvestLens picks that from where the date is and how much room it has, always in your order. Tables use digits, labels and documents spell the month out, and a headline date adds the weekday.
