Receipts and documents
Attach files to transactions and keep the links working.
Any transaction can have documents attached — a receipt, an invoice, a dividend statement. The Attachments panel beside the register shows the selected transaction's file; turn it on with View ▸ Attachments in the register toolbar.
Where files live
Your files stay where you filed them. Attaching one records where it is, not a second copy of it — so the folder you scan into stays the single archive, and tidying it there tidies it everywhere.
Settings ▸ Documents takes two folders, a primary and a secondary — receipts in one and statements in the other, say. A file inside either is linked relatively, the same way GnuCash does it, so the book and its documents can move together — onto a NAS, or to a new Mac — without breaking. A file outside both is linked by its full path, which still works but does not travel.
- Link File… points at a file where it already is.
- Add Web Link… stores a URL instead of a file.
- Remove Link unlinks only — your file is never deleted.
