Features
What FinvestLens does
A complete double-entry accounting application — the engine, the everyday work of keeping a book, investments, reporting, planning and small business.
The accounting core
GnuCash’s model, rebuilt in Swift — and checked against it to the cent.
- Double-entry bookkeeping
- Transactions of two or more splits that must balance to zero. The invariant is enforced by the engine, not by convention.
- A hierarchical chart of accounts
- Asset, Bank, Cash, Credit, Liability, Equity, Income, Expense, Receivable, Payable, Stock, Mutual Fund and Trading accounts, nested as deeply as you like.
- Exact decimal money
- Native Decimal arithmetic rounded to each commodity’s fraction — no binary floating-point drift on your balances.
- Multi-currency
- Accounts in any currency, with a price database and exchange-rate handling that values the whole book in yours.
- Lots and capital gains
- FIFO, LIFO or average cost, with a Stock Transaction assistant covering buys, sells, dividends, reinvestment, return of capital and splits — short positions included.
- Undo everything
- Every edit captures only what it is about to change. Imports, bulk edits and posted schedules all reverse cleanly.
Everyday money
The work of keeping a book that actually stays up to date.
- Bank and broker import
- CSV with saved column profiles, QIF, OFX/QFX, SWIFT MT940/MT942 and ISO 20022 CAMT.053 — format detected from the file itself.
- An import matcher that thinks
- Duplicate detection on FITID plus amount and date with one-to-one claiming, destination accounts learned from payee history, and cross-account transfer completion instead of double entries.
- Smart Import with Apple Intelligence
- PDF statements, dividend notices and invoices read on device, matched to existing transactions, linked and categorised.
- Rules
- Trigger and action groups that categorise, rename, tag, or mark a payment as settling a particular bill — on import or applied to history.
- Reconciliation
- Enter the statement balance; matching transactions auto-clear, and the running difference tells you exactly what you are hunting.
- Scheduled transactions
- Any recurrence, with formula amounts you are prompted for, a loan calculator that builds the schedule, and bill reminders that clear exactly.
- Budgets
- Per-account planned amounts with rollover, auto-budget from actual spending, and a monthly proposal written on device.
- Attachments
- Receipts and invoices linked relatively — the same scheme GnuCash uses — so book and documents move together.
Investments
A portfolio that values itself.
- Live and historical prices
- Yahoo and Stooq need no key; EODHD, Alpha Vantage, Finnhub and Twelve Data take a free one, kept in your keychain — never in the book.
- Historical backfill
- Fill every gap in a security’s history from first holding to today, including delisted securities through EODHD.
- Cost basis and realised gains
- Computed per lot with the method you choose, with brokerage handled the way your tax return expects.
- Dividends and franking credits
- Recorded gross where it applies, so the tax reports have what they need at year end.
- Price targets and watch lists
- An alert on the dashboard when the latest quote crosses a target you set.
Reports and statements
Presentation-standard output, not a data dump.
- The statements
- Balance sheet, income statement, trial balance and cash flow — hierarchical face-and-notes built from your own chart of accounts, with comparatives and materiality folding.
- Presentation decks
- A CFO-style Financial Review and a factsheet Investment Review, with charts, callouts and commentary generated on device from the figures on the slide.
- Financial Year Pack
- Everything you need at tax time gathered into one PDF, in reading order.
- Business reports
- Receivable and payable aging, customer summaries and printable tax invoices.
- Favourites
- Save a report with its settings and come straight back to it.
Planning and insight
Estimates from your own figures, always shown with their workings — never advice.
- Debt Reduction Planner
- Avalanche against snowball, with the payoff date and the interest saved versus paying minimums.
- Lifetime Planner
- A long-range projection seeded from your book, with editable assumptions, one-off life events and a today’s-money view.
- Tax estimator
- Built from the accounts you mark as income and deductions, with editable brackets defaulting to Australian resident rates.
- Spending insights
- Period-on-period comparison in plain language, with unusual-spend alerts.
- Financial wellbeing score
- Four measures from your own books — savings rate, cash runway, debt to income, spending trend — each shown with how it was worked out.
- Savings goals
- Earmark part of an account toward something, with optional time-boxed challenges.
Small business
The GnuCash business layer, verified against it to the cent.
- Customers, vendors, employees and jobs
- With billing terms and sales-tax tables.
- Invoices and bills
- Posted through A/R and A/P with payments, credit notes and aging.
- Australian Tax Invoice
- Printable, with GST stated the way the ATO expects.
- Time and mileage
- Log billable work, then gather it onto a customer invoice.
Apple platform
Native, not a web app in a window.
- macOS, iPadOS and iOS
- One SwiftUI codebase with layouts that suit each.
- Eight languages
- English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese and Simplified Chinese, with accounting terms following GnuCash’s own conventions.
- Widgets, Shortcuts and Spotlight
- Net worth and upcoming bills on your desktop; App Intents for automation; Quick Look previews of your book.
- Accessibility
- Dynamic Type, VoiceOver labels throughout, full keyboard control.
- NAS-safe sharing
- Application-level locking with heartbeat and stale-lock detection, a local working copy, and atomic write-back.
- Audit log
- A GnuCash-style sidecar recording each edit beside the book.
