Accounts
The chart of accounts, and how the sidebar is organised.
Accounts form a tree. A parent account shows the total of everything beneath it, so you can group Expenses:Car:Fuel and Expenses:Car:Insurance under one Car heading and still see them separately.
Account types
| Asset | What you own — bank accounts, cash, investments, property. |

| Liability | What you owe — credit cards, loans, mortgages. |
| Income | Money coming in — salary, dividends, interest. |
| Expense | Money going out — the categories you spend in. |
| Equity | Opening balances and retained earnings. |
Keeping the sidebar tidy
- Favourites pin the accounts you use most to the top of the sidebar.
- Placeholder accounts group children but take no transactions of their own.
- Hidden accounts stay out of the sidebar until you switch them back on.
- The filter box at the top of the sidebar narrows the tree as you type.
