The online manual covers everything from opening your first collection to keyboard shortcuts. The most common starting points:

Frequently asked questions
Where are my notes stored?
As plain .md files in the folder you selected. HelloNotes never moves them elsewhere, and you can open them in any other app at any time.
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
No. HelloNotes works entirely offline and has no account. Nothing is uploaded anywhere unless you deliberately configure Git syncing or a cloud AI provider.
Why don’t I see the intelligence features?
Summarise, Suggest and “Ask your library” require a Mac with Apple Intelligence available and enabled (Apple silicon, a recent macOS, and the feature turned on in System Settings). Everything else in HelloNotes works without it. You can also configure your own model instead — see AI & intelligence.
Can I sync between devices?
Yes. Put your collection folder in any file-syncing location — iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Box, OneDrive or Google Drive — or use the built-in Git features with your own remote. See Cloud storage and Version history with Git.
Does it work with my existing Obsidian vault?
Yes, directly. Point HelloNotes at the vault folder and it opens as a collection — there is no import step, because both apps are simply reading Markdown files. Wiki-links, aliases, tags, callouts and front matter all carry over.
The app won’t open / macOS says it can’t be verified
It should never say that: HelloNotes is signed with a Developer ID and notarised by Apple. If you do see a warning, the download may be incomplete — delete it, download again from the download page, and check the checksum listed there.
What are the system requirements?
macOS 15 or later, on Apple silicon or Intel.
How do I uninstall it?
Drag HelloNotes from Applications to the Trash. Your notes are unaffected — they are your own files in your own folder.
Reporting a bug
To help us fix something quickly, it’s useful to include:
- What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead
- Your macOS version and Mac model
- Whether the collection is local, in a cloud folder, or a Git repository
- A screenshot, if the problem is visual
