The online manual covers everything from opening your first collection to keyboard shortcuts. The most common starting points:

Frequently asked questions
Where are my notes stored?
As plain .md files in the folder you selected. HelloNotes never moves them elsewhere, and you can open them in any other app at any time.
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
No. HelloNotes works entirely offline and has no account. Your notes are not uploaded anywhere unless you set up Git syncing or a cloud storage account. A few settings — appearance, the view you last used, the names of your daily-note and template folders — follow you between your devices through your own iCloud account. Downloading an MLX model, and a web search by the Assistant or by Research, need a connection.
Why don’t I see the intelligence features?
Summarise, Suggest Tags and Links, Ask Your Library and the Assistant use Apple Intelligence by default, which needs a Mac, iPhone or iPad that supports it, with Apple Intelligence turned on — in System Settings on the Mac, Settings on iPhone and iPad. Everything else in HelloNotes works without it. Or run an open model on your device with MLX instead — see AI & intelligence.
Can I sync between devices?
Yes. Put your collection folder in any file-syncing location — iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Box, OneDrive or Google Drive — or use the built-in Git features with your own remote. See Cloud storage and Version history with Git.
Does it work with my existing Obsidian vault?
Yes, directly. Point HelloNotes at the vault folder and it opens as a collection — there is no import step, because both apps are simply reading Markdown files. Wiki-links, aliases, tags, callouts and front matter all carry over.
The app won’t open / macOS says it can’t be verified
It should never say that: HelloNotes is signed with a Developer ID and notarised by Apple. If you do see a warning, the download may be incomplete — delete it, download again from the download page, and check the checksum listed there.
What are the system requirements?
HelloNotes 1.3.3 needs macOS 27 or later on a Mac with Apple silicon, or iOS & iPadOS 27 or later.
How do I uninstall it?
Drag HelloNotes from Applications to the Trash. Your notes are unaffected — they are your own files in your own folder.
Reporting a bug
To help us fix something quickly, it’s useful to include:
- What you did, what you expected, and what happened instead
- Your OS version and device model
- Whether the collection is local, in a cloud folder, or a Git repository
- A screenshot, if the problem is visual
