HelloNotes is a local-first application published byHello Tham Pty. Ltd.. Your notes are stored as plain files on your own device, in a folder you select. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or have access to your notes or any personal data.
In short: no account, no analytics, no tracking, no servers. Your data never leaves your Mac unless you explicitly choose to sync it somewhere yourself.
What we collect
Nothing. HelloNotes has no analytics, no telemetry, no advertising identifiers, and no user accounts. We do not operate any server that receives your data. Because we hold no data about you, there is nothing for us to disclose, share, or delete on request.
Your notes
Your notes are ordinary Markdown files in a folder on your device that you choose. They remain under your control and can be read or edited by any other application. HelloNotesreads and writes only the folders you explicitly open, using macOS security-scoped access.
On-device intelligence
The optional Summarise, Suggest Tags/Links, Expand and “Ask your library” features use Apple’s on-device Foundation Models framework. Your note content is processed locally on your Mac and is not sent to us or to any third party. These features appear only on hardware where Apple Intelligence is available.
Optional cloud AI providers
HelloNotes can optionally use a third-party AI provider (such as Anthropic, OpenAI or Google) if — and only if — you choose to configure one with your own API key. These providers are switched off until you set one up.
When you use such a provider, the text you submit for that action (for example the note being summarised, or your question along with relevant excerpts from your notes) is sent to that provider under your own account and their privacy policy. Your key is stored in the macOS Keychain and is never transmitted to us. The Assistant’s optional web search and fetch tools likewise contact the internet only when you invoke them.
Cloud storage and version control
If you keep a collection in iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Box, OneDrive or Google Drive, or connect one of those accounts directly, your files are handled by that service under its own privacy policy — the same as any other folder on your Mac. Similarly, if you use the built-in Git features with your own remote repository, your notes are sent only to the destination you configure. HelloNotes is not that destination and does not receive a copy.
Children’s privacy
HelloNotes does not collect data from anyone, including children, and is rated 4+.
